End of an Era
Yeah, it's true! As Eri says, Strange Candy is finally coming to an end. It has been a long long road, but now it's finally time to move on. I started this comic in 2001 when I was 26, and now, 17 years later, here I am at 43! woah! I can't believe it. I never imagined it would be such a big project! I have loved working on the comic all these years, and I sincerely want to thank everyone who has worked with me on it! Kourin, Tanzy, Xuanwu, thank you so much!! I also want to thank our readers for sticking with this ancient comic, I am so happy and thankful that people actually read and take the time to read the comic and comment from time to time. Ahh I'm getting teary-eyed here, seriously!
How, exactly, do you end a comic?? This is my first webcomic, and I have never actually ended one before!? I didn't want to just cut it off in the middle of a story line, so I made sure our main cast got home, and that everyone else will be where they belong. There will actually be a couple more of months of comics coming as we go through the epilogues to see what becomes of everyone. There are lots of characters, so this may take a while!
It was a hard decision to end the comic, but there is another comic I really want to do, and I just can't manage working on 2 comics at once. OO has had a good run, I think! I have had the other comic idea tucked away in my mind for a long time, gathering dust, and I really want to work on it. (I'm still debating between standard comic strip format or a scrolling webtoon format). I just want to branch out and try new things! So I had to make the decision at last. So yeah, this comic will continue for another couple months of epilogues until the end. Then I will take a break to fully devote myself to my new idea and try to make it actually happen. I don't know how long it will take for me to get my new idea into workable shape, or even where I'll host it, but I'll probably update the OO page with the info when I figure it out. So I started reading your comic in like high school and abruptly remembered it today. Shame I showed up right on time for the end but I'm glad you've got a new project in the works! I'm gonna see if I can catch up on what I've missed, thanks for writing this!
Has it really been 17 years? I think I've been reading for about 16 of those. My oldest bookmark for this site is from back when you were on Keenspot.
Well, it's been a fun ride. Weird, some might even say strange, but fun. Been interesting watching your art evolve over the years. The "name that anime reference" was certainly challenging at times, but again fun.
But I do not believe you're only two years younger than me.
I was thinking more like 10.
Anyway, sad to see this ending, looking forward to your next project, and waiting somewhat patiently for when I can buy the omnibus edition of Okashina Okashi.
Make that happan, young lady!
Oh man has it been that long?? I think I started on keenspot when you had about 20 pages or so - I have never given up as this comic has been so much fun :). thank you for all the hard work and years of effort - to the whole team. I get choked up for each on of the epilogues as they are put out. I have to tell you you are ending this brilliantly. thank you!
