Update musings...

I have been thinking a lot lately that I may scale back the update schedule of OO for a while. I have been more or less maintaining a 3-times a week update schedule for 5.5 years now (barring pre-convention art show farnart blitzes), and it is beginning to wear on me. I know it doesn't look like it, but each comic takes me many hours to complete, and I am finding lately that I am not having enough time to get other stuff done that I want to do (work on my other sites working on some non-OO-related artwork and there is this OO-related shounen ai side story involving a specific BMG branch I have been thinking a lot about lately).

I don't want to stop doing OO (no way, I love it ^_^) but I have been thinking of reducing the update schedule to, say, once a week for a while (a few months maybe?) just so I can try doing some other things too. I worry that we might lose readers though... ;_; Any thoughts? Would you still stick with OO even if we only updated once a week? I am still just pondering this, nothing is set in stone yet. ^_^;

I've been visiting OO since the about halfway through the first plot arc, and I love it! While there have been times I stop for a month or two, I always come back.

And, honestly, I've always been amazed that you have been able to get three out a week--I tried to be a comic artist once, and quickly decided it was not for me.

In other words...give yourself a break, you deserve it! I'll still be back once a week!

Emi dear, don't think the readership will drop off just because the update schedule is a bit more sporadic. There are two points I shall make to illustrate this...

1.) Most of us were not here from the beginning, so when we first started reading, we were able to go through many comics at once. After getting caught up, we were relegated to three a week and are still here. Another dropoff isn't a problem, really, so long as the story does continue.

2.) RPG World hasn't updated in over a year, and I still check on that around once a week ^_^

So do what you need to do.

Most of the comics i read are once-a-week things, and like most of the readers, i came in during one of the earlier story arcs, about 2003 or so....so yeah...if you need to take a break, do it. your health comes first! *nods*

Erm.. I wouldn't leave if it decreased, as long as it was REALLY once-a-week and didn't drop to monthly or something. I do enjoy the frequent updates but can understand how lots of other things come first. Have you considered TWICE a week, say Mondays and Fridays? It's more often than only once a week but less than what you're doing now.

Take your time Emi, we don't want you to get burned out. I do enjoy the comic (especially all the grief you give Dom) and appreciate all the hard work you put into it.

If it's burning you out, take the breather. Better to have fewer high quality comics than many lower quality comics.

As I'm in this for the actual plotline that was started in the beginning (and Dom, poor, poor Dom), and not the artstyle itself (It's actually very beautifully done, you can tell you put a lot of yourself into each comic; it's just that Bishonen isn't my can of Red Bull), I'll probably be around long after the comic wraps up and gets archived into some sort of Wayback Machine...

I agree with everyone else. I'll stick around ^_^

heck... I only update my comic once a week, and I don't know if I even have readers...

If you switch to doing it once a week, please do not do it on Mondays. Saterdays would be good for me.

OO is great! Emi, that would be good idea to make 1 comic per week for a while (in my opinion;))
Dont burn out yourself!

I concur:)

I guess I'm a loner in that I only started reading this comic 2 years ago...

But anyway I read comics that say they update like 3 times a week but have gone weeks without an update.

OO is my fav webcomic and I wont stop reading it even if it drops down in frequency (this would actually probably be better for my health as I sometimes wait for an update tuesday and thursday morning if im up late mon or wed night... like right now ;p)

Do what you have to, the people who really like the comic will accept whatever choice you make.

Of course i'd stick around! :P
OO rocks. Well worth waiting a week for.

If it's tiring you out and taking over your life, and you want to take a break, go for it. Other things ARE more important.

Grrr... how dare you ration our free entertainment that comes from the sweat of your brow? As Comic Book Guy explained to Bart:

Bart: Hey, I know it wasn't great, but what right do you have to complain?

CBG: As a loyal viewer, I feel they owe me.

Bart: What? They're giving you thousands of hours of entertainment for free. What could they possibly owe you? I mean, if anything, you owe them.

CBG: Worst episode ever.

i don't think that you will ever really loose readers.its easy for us to catch up with the story lines. and i understand about being busy. but i think that so long as you update OO you should be fine. i wish you luck in everything you do and whatever you decide.
your faithful reader since 2002,

Do whatever you have to, I won't stop reading! I read several once-a-week comics anyway.
